Hi. I’ve been telling the story of Evangeline the play. Evangeline is about the Acadian deportation, which means the Acadian people were sent away from what had been their land when the British won a war a long time ago. But here’s the funny part.
The play is in English!!! What???!!!
So I made two videos telling you about what I know about the Acadian deportation. I made one in English and one in francais. The francais video is more Acadian.
Here’s the English video.
ca c’est le video francais!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome job Oscar! I love hearing your updates, and your knowledge of Acadian history is fantastic! I especially like getting to listen in English or in French depending on my mood! I agree that the 1999’s were a looong time ago for us young people! Can’t wait for the next one.
Hi Oscar,
I just wanted to say that I really liked your video, the Deportation of Acadians is a very important moment in the history of our culture, and is what made us the people we are today.
Je veux aussi te dire que tu parles très bien le français! C’est très important que tu continues à apprendre en français! Sois fière de ton bilinguisme et de ton héritage acadienne!
Katherine
P.S. Bonnie I absolutely love you son’s blog!
(Bonnie here…Katherine, merci beaucoup. I remember you fondly when you were Oscar’s age, trying to teach me French: you can see I still have far to go, but I’m making headway! Children are great teachers. xo to you.)
Really a great job Oscar. You are a very smart young man. Love reading your blogs and really enjoyed your video. Etc. Etc. Etc.
We are coming to PEI in a couple of weeks for the opening.
You are a very lucky young man to have such a great Mom. She is obviously doing a super job.
(Bonnie here…thanks Bonnie! We need an “Evangeline moms named Bonnie” appreciation club. 😉 )
Actually I am Adam (Gabriel’s Mom). I so love your son’s blog. He is an awesome young man and you must be so proud. Hope Oscar gets to see the completed Evangeline, maybe even see you there. Etc. Etc. Etc. (That was just so darling) I am in your Bonnie Club for sure. By the way, my family is originally from PEI (St. Peter’s Bay area and Union Corners). So a real connection there.
Hi Oscar,
In Nova Scotia there is Evangeline’s Trail, which follows the coast along the Bay of Fundy. As you know, that was once the home (and is still the home) of many Acadians. When driving to the valley, if you look out towards Bolomidon, you’ll see Evangeline’s profile in the mountain. Can you see her? Her nose is most prominent, with her chin resting in the water.
